Selected poems translated from OBLIGACIÓN by Francisco Jose Martinez Moran
DEFINITIVE VERSION
YOU are mistaken if you think
that everything which you’ve seen is the
definitive version: Always unfolding before
your eyes an unfinished project,
the model of a plan which has already foreseen the ungovernable force of your ruin
OBLIGACIÓN
I

YA sé que por las grietas pasa un soplo
de sol, un leve indicio por la calle
por la que nunca más caminaré.
También sé que me debo a la desgana,
al vacío interior de la penumbra.
No sabría explicar cuánto me añoro.
OBLIGATION
I.

I already know that through the cracks passes a breath of sun, a slight hint from the street of which you will never again walk (down)
I also know that I owe to the indifference, the interior void of the half-light.
I do not how to explain how much I long for myself.
VIGAS COMO PAPEL
HAY vigas que parecen de papel
y sin embargo, siguen sosteniendo
la torpe inclinación de nuestras piernas.
A pesar del olvido y la carcoma.
PAPER BEAMS
THERE are beams which seem like paper
However, they continue sustaining the awkward incline of our legs.
Despite the oblivion and the worry
CULPA
ME estallan los oídos
Alguien al otro lado del tabique
se mofa de mi culpa, me conoce,
sabe a la perfección que me avergüenzo;
calla, susurra y calla, su estrategia
es infalible: seda en los resquicios.
GUILT
MY ears are bursting
Someone on the other side of the partition
Mocks my fault, they know me,
They know of the perfection of which I am ashamed;
she’s quiet, she whispers and she’s quiet, her strategy is infallible: silk within the cracks
AJMÁTOVA
ME estoy deshabitando.
Imperceptiblemente, en un exilio
de piedra y cercanías, deshabito
los dedos que palparon aquel rostro
sin rasgos ni futuro. Deshabito
las puertas que cruzaste de mi mano,
las camas desprendidas de la noche,
los labios que rezaron nombres huecos,
los ojos confundidos en la niebla.
Deshabito mi cuerpo y dejo atrás
mi pecho, mi cabeza, cada palmo
herida, poro y pliegue de una piel
que nunca me llegó a delimitar.
Me estoy deshabitando, aunque no puedo
decir adónde voy por este túnel:
no hay luz al otro lado, nadie acoge
esta desposesión ilimitada
en que se ha convertido mi existencia.
AJMÁTOVA
I am abandoning myself.
Imperceptibly, in an exile
of rock and commuter trains, I abandon the fingers that felt this face without features nor future. I abandon the doors that you crossed from my hand, the disinterested beds of the night, the lips that prayed of hollow names, and the eyes confused in the fog.
I abandon my body and I leave behind my chest, my head, every wounded inch, pore and crease of a skin that I never came to measure.
I am abandoning myself, even though I cannot decide where I am going in this tunnel: there is no light on the other side, nobody receives this limitless dispossession of which my existence has converted into
CARTOGRAFIA

CARTOGRAPHY
I am cold and I cannot protect myself.
